June air passenger traffic growth strong, freight flat
Although some airlines are reporting a slight reduction worldwide passenger traffic grew significantly in June, up nearly 5 percent worldwide over June of 2010. International traffic saw a 6.2 percent increase and domestic traffic was up 3.6%. Only the Africa region saw a decline, largely due to civil unrest in several major North African markets. Read more
Etihad Crystal Cargo announces Almaty Freighter operation
Etihad Crystal Cargo, the air cargo division of Etihad Airways, has today announced a new dedicated freighter operation from Abu Dhabi to Almaty in Kazakhstan.
The service will commence operations on July 28, 2011, using the airline’s Airbus A330-200F freighter with a payload of 59 metric tonnes on the route. Read more
Etihad Crystal Cargo signs new freighter deal
Etihad Crystal Cargo has signed a multi-year contract extension with World Airways (part of Global Aviation Holdings) to provide two MD-11 cargo aircraft operating on scheduled routes to Europe, Asia and Africa.

Dubai Airport expansion plans to cost $7.8 billion
Dubai Airport has today announced that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, (Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates) has endorsed its US$7.8 billion (28.8 billion AED) airport and airspace expansion programme which will boost capacity at Dubai International Airport from 60 million to 90 million passengers per year by 2018. Korean Air, South Korea’s flagship airline, announced today its financial results for the third quarter of 2010 ended September 30, 2010. Korean Air’s quarterly operating profit hit a record, sustaining a strong growth momentum during the record period. Read more
IATA report September traffic: stronger passenger, weaker freight
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced international traffic results for September. International passenger traffic had a 10.5% year-on-year increase which is significantly stronger than the 6.5% rise recorded for August. International freight traffic recorded a 14.8% year-on-year increase, which is significantly weaker than the 19.0% rise recorded in August. Read more
